Swansea Stories: Exploring Cultural Heritage Through Ceramics
Over the summer, members of Iberian and Latin Americans in Wales (ILA Wales) took part in an inspiring series of ceramic workshops. Led by artists Esther Ley and Patti McKenna, the group explored the historical links between the Swansea Pottery story, Iberia, and Latin America.
The project examined how the industrial revolution paved the way for a unique historical connection between Swansea and the Iberian and Latin American communities.
Personal Stories Written in Clay
In response to this rich history, participants produced a beautiful collection of ceramic plates. Each piece features handcrafted designs exploring the maker’s individual journey, cultural heritage, and personal story.
This creative process allowed community members to connect their lived experiences directly with local heritage and visual art.
