With the group, I have danced folk music from Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, and Spain. This shared experience is always fun—plus, learning and sharing these dances has made me even more curious about our traditions. Motivated by that curiosity, I have been researching and sharing what I find with the ILA in Wales’ dancers, who also contribute their own knowledge and comments. That is a bonus to our work.
Overall, the ILA in Wales represents friendship, solidarity, and joy. I’m a member of the ILA in Wales because I share its philosophy. It connects me with others in Wales who are interested in Ibero-Latin American cultures. Being born in Colombia, living in Swansea and being part of ILA for some years has enriched my life.
After some time with ILA in Wales, I recently joined the dance group and have been rehearsing on Fridays. I am happy dancing and learning in many ways. The project states that dances must be suggested and led by its members, which is something I really value. This collaborative approach makes our rehearsals and presentations engaging.
