Celebrating culture and community through textile art
The Project 23 tapestry workshop is a creative and community-led event organised by ILA-WALES in collaboration with the Welsh Refugee Council. This unique workshop brings together local and migrant communities to co-create a beautiful piece of textile art that celebrates both Welsh and Ibero-Latin American cultures.
Led by Dalila Sánchez, with the support of Aydée Bonilla, the event also includes volunteers from SASS and Sketty Foodbank. Participants will design and sew together a collaborative tapestry that will later be displayed in a public exhibition during 2025.

The goal of Project 23 tapestry workshop
This initiative is more than just a creative activity. It’s about building bridges between communities through shared artistic expression. By working together on the tapestry, participants explore identity, connection, and belonging—stitch by stitch.
Project 23 tapestry workshop is part of ILA-WALES’ commitment to inclusion and cultural exchange. It promotes collaboration between refugees, asylum-seekers, and local residents in a safe, welcoming environment.
Looking ahead: the 2025 exhibition
The final artwork will become part of a wider Exhibition of Creativity planned for later in 2025. This event will showcase the talents, stories, and efforts of people from different backgrounds, celebrating unity through art.
Thank you to our partners
ILA-WALES warmly thanks the Welsh Refugee Council, SASS, and Sketty Foodbank for their co-production and support in making this Project 23 tapestry workshop possible.
